Star and Jessika demonstrate bridleless riding - it's all in the seat and legs! Some of you watching Star giving your young beginner child a lesson might wonder whether she can move out! Well...here's your answer!
Harley SF - 3 yr Chestnut Arab Gelding
Harley SF is a purebred 3 year old chestnut Arab gelding. He is the newest horse at Kids Horsin' Around and is in training to be an endurance trail horse. He got the perfect attributes for the job: he's an Arab (known for their endurance), he's got legs, long lanky legs, and a shorter back! He's also very tall for an Arab - 16hh! Sweet and intelligent!
Harley SF comes from a long line of well-bred Arabs - from the Padrons Psyche line right here in Southern California!
Tango - 9 year Morgan/Haflinger
Tango is a Morgan/Haflinger 9 yr gelding. He's the newest horse at Kids Horsin' Around, and technically, isn't a horse at all! He's two inches shy of being a horse, and so Tango, like Star, is a big pony. (14.2hh and under is a pony).
He is a chestnut with flaxen mane and tail, a white blaze and two white socks on his hind legs.
Tango doesn't like people invading his space when he eats, and will pin his ears back to tell you to keep away.
Tango will ride English or Western, but for now he's always behind the bit.
He's come a long way on ground manners since we got him and is beginning to stand still and just enjoy getting groomed.
Good in the arena, and excellent on trail, he knows how to take care of beginner riders.
Connor - 30 yr Grey Thoroughbred Gelding
Connor is a 30+ year old OTTB (off the track Thoroughbred race horse), and up until very recently, he was a major team player at Kids Horsin' Around. He's getting on in years (close to 90 in people years), so lately he just hangs his head over the rail looking for rubs and carrots from passersby.
He came out of the winter 2009 with abscesses on both front hooves and we're working diligently to "get him back on his feet" again. Absolute sweet heart of a horse.
Flash - 5 yr Welsh Pony
Flash is a 5 yr old Welsh Pony gelding and half brother to Invader Zim. Flash is a bay with beautiful markings of a white blaze and four white socks, and is just 11.2 hands.
These two brothers love to play rough house with each other and they often come in from their daily turnout with a few knicks and scratches! Both love to free jump on their own and race around during play time looking for things to jump.
Flash is very good with beginner children; not so good with new encounters of the scary kind! In training for Hunter/Jumper - he's going to be a sure winner in the show ring!
Invader Zim - 5 yr Welsh Pony
Zim is a 5 yr chestnut Welsh Pony gelding with a flaxen mane and tail. He is the half brother of Flash; both arrived together about 2 years ago from Verde Peninsula.
Loves children and attention, but new things still give him a startle.
Zim loves to jump. Watch him jump in this blogspot. He free jumps on his own for three minutes looking very proud of himself!
Star - 28 yr Mustang Mare
Fifth Avenue EmmyLou (Emmy) - 15 yr miniature Mare
Color to the Max - 20 yr American Saddlebred Pinto
Fifth Avenue Sugar & Spice (Sugar)
Jack - 3 yr OTTB in Training

Is a miniature a Pony?
Miniature Horses are not called ponies, even though they can be extremely small - usually under 34 inches tall.
Miniature Horses are bred to have horse-like features, not traditional pony features.
Controversy exists over the existence of dwarfism genes in the genetic pool of some breeding programs.
Dwarf characteristics (disproportionately large heads and short legs) are considered a fault among most breeders of Miniature Horses.
